Do you have a thankless job?
My job in medicine is considered thankless. I understand why.
I see patients at the end of their journey.
To be honest, I used to dread speaking with family members who were grieving, until I found coaching.
Before, I used to think that the person’s grief was directed at me. The conversations felt uncomfortable.
Now that I understand the expression of grief has nothing to do with me personally, the conversations became easier.
One day, I unexpectedly received a thank you card from someone that warmed my heart and reminded me why I do this work.
The person’s words were, “I’ve never met in person, but I could tell that you’re a good person to do this work.” Reading the card caused me to realize even when you don’t think people notice, you are appreciated.
